023: Munchie Monday, or Sweetie's Ice Cream
This week, Kelsea and our flight attendant, the amazing Gigi Gabor, traveled out to Steep Falls to check out the adorable Sweetie’s Ice Cream.
Sweetie’s is owned by the sweetest couple, Ericka and Aaron. Their oldest of three kiddos, Norah, helps out in the shop, too. Kelsea has known this family for years, and didn’t even recognize Norah when we rolled up to the window, so you know that the kids are teens now. Holy geez.
Sweetie’s has ssssoooooo many flavors, and I love all of them, but they are well known for their quirky concoctions at the shop. Sometimes they do unicorn sundaes. Their cookie ice cream sandwiches are amazing. However, have you ever had an ice cream taco? That’s what was on special just for us, and they were incredible.
Ericka made us these incredible ice cream tacos in three different varieties, which were perfect for the show: Caked, Baked, and Fried!
Each ice cream taco starts with a homemade flour tortilla, which has been baked and covered with cinnamon sugar. For the Caked ice cream tacos, the tortillas were also partially chocolate dipped, then filled with Cake Batter ice cream, smothered in whipped cream, and don’t forget the sprinkles!
The Baked ice cream taco actually comes as a pair; one has regular vanilla based chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, and the other has chocolate cookie dough! These were drizzled in some chocolate sauce, topped with whipped cream, and then half a chocolate chip cookie. Finally, we ended with the Fried ice cream taco, which had their spicy chocolate ice cream with bits of graham cracker in a dipped shell, along with a very generous drizzle of caramel sauce
Ericka and Gigi cuddled while Kelsea and Ericka caught up for a few minutes, and then Gigi and Kelsea scarfed half of these down before heading back to bed to record, where we slurped the melted leftovers.
Sweetie’s is located right at 1 Main Street, Steep Falls, ME, on the corner of the Pequawket Trail , and right across the street from Steep Falls weekly summer Farmer’s Market. On the way to Western Maine, this family is always ready to cool you down with some sweet ice cream treats, and send you on your way with a huge smile.
Make sure you tune in Weed Wednesday to hear Gigi Gabor and Kelsea chat more about it while watching the pilot episode of the new Queer Eye!
